Welcome to Being In Motherhood ♡

I write about what it means to be human while navigating motherhood, neurodivergence and living a full creative life. I believe reflection and compassion can change the world, the way we see things, and how we be here.

My writing blends my own experiences in life with my love of Zen Buddhism. I focus on what it means to be here while navigating the ever-evolving life of a human being while raising a child and understanding my own (and his) neurodivergence.

Two themes I find myself coming back to over and over again are being with what is and embracing our humanity with compassion.

What you will find here…

  • Honest writings about motherhood and mothering.

  • Reflections about what it means to be here and connect with this moment.

  • Explorations on how neurodivergence overlaps with mothering and creativity.

  • Access to the archives of other mother’s stories.

I invite you to join the Creative Circle, my paid subscriber space. We gather each month to talk about writing and creativity, share what we are working on, and give and receive gentle, supportive feedback. This time together fuels the creative revolution of women whose ideas, words, and self-expressions are birthed around the edges of motherhood.

Kind words from readers

“Mothers supporting mothers. Everyday. Always.” - LeAnna Bricker

“I cannot express how much Emma's words soothe and support me as I journey with Motherhood. I am so grateful for her honest expression and the presence she brings to this space. ” - Lauren Barber

“Emma shares her own honest experiences and those of other mothers, and I have found it such a relief to read that other people have had such similar experiences to me. Since I gave birth to my son in November 2020, I've often believed there is something wrong with me for finding motherhood so hard. Reading Being in Motherhood helps me to know that I am not alone and there is nothing wrong with me. Emma also shares ideas and practices like meditation and self-compassion to support ourselves as mothers. I often forget to bring these practices into my life so I really appreciate these reminders!” - Ellie Nova
